Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Service Preliminary Exam: Key Details and Eligibility

​The preliminary examination for several Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) services is tentatively scheduled for November 30, 2025. This exam serves as a gateway to positions in the J&K Administrative Service, J&K Police (Gazetted) Service, and J&K Accounts (Gazetted) Service.

Vacancies and Eligibility

​The documents outline the number of vacancies available across different categories. For instance, the Junior Scale of KAS has a total of 35 vacancies, with 14 for the Open Merit (OM) category and the rest distributed among various reserved categories like RBA, SC, ST-1, ST-2, LAC/IB, OBC, and EWS. Similarly, the J&K Accounts (G) Service has 15 vacancies and the J&K Police (G) Service has 30.

​To be eligible, a candidate must be a domicile of the Union Territory of J&K and hold a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university. Candidates who have appeared for their final year Bachelor's degree examination must submit proof of passing the degree before the last date for the Main Examination. The age requirements are as follows:

  • Open Merit (OM): The age limit is 32. Candidates must have been born between January 1, 1993, and January 1, 2004.
  • Reserved Categories: The age limit is 34. Candidates must have been born between January 1, 1991, and January 1, 2004.
  • Physically Challenged Candidates: The age limit is 35. Candidates must have been born between January 1, 1990, and January 1, 2004.

Application Process and Examination Scheme

​The application process requires candidates to pay a non-refundable requisite fee after submitting their online application form. The fee is Rs. 1200 for the Open Merit category and Rs. 700 for Reserved Categories. Physically Challenged candidates are exempt from paying any fee.

​The selection process involves three successive stages:

  1. Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination: This is an objective-type exam for screening and selecting candidates for the Main Examination.
  2. Combined Competitive (Main) Examination: A written examination.
  3. Personality Test/Interview: The final stage for selected candidates.

​The preliminary examination consists of two papers, each with a total of 200 marks. There is a penalty for incorrect answers, with a one-third deduction of the marks assigned to a question for every wrong answer.
