Government of India Approves Vande Bharat Train Services Between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar
Ministry of Railways announces introduction of high-speed train connectivity in Kashmir Valley
New Delhi, June 4, 2025 – The Ministry of Railways has officially approved the introduction of Vande Bharat Express train services between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar, a major development poised to enhance rail connectivity in the Kashmir Valley. According to Railway Board notification no. 2024/CHG/16/50-PART(1), the new services will operate under train numbers 26401/02 and 26403/04.
The trains will run between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar with intermediate stops at Banihal, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Srinagar. Two sets of trains will operate in each direction with varying departure and arrival timings, excluding specific weekdays:

The Ministry has emphasized that the trains may be brought into operation from an early convenient date, subject to final notification by Northern Railway. If necessary, the inaugural service may be launched as a special train, with wide publicity to follow.
Railway officials have been directed to ensure full compliance and coordination for the successful rollout of the new Vande Bharat services in the region. This marks a significant step in integrating the Kashmir Valley with India's high-speed rail network.
